Brown Belt Dominance
Balmant built a formidable competitive record across IBJJF Masters divisions in both gi and no-gi formats, competing in the Meio Pesado division at 88.30 kg (195.0 lbs). His most prestigious title came at the 2014 Pan Jiu-Jitsu No-Gi IBJJF Championship, where he claimed gold in the brown belt Master 1 division — the centerpiece of his competitive résumé.
His brown belt run was particularly prolific. In 2013, he captured gold at the IBJJF New York International Open and the IBJJF Boston International Open in the Master division. In 2014, he added the IBJJF New York BJJ Pro, the IBJJF New York Summer International Open, and the IBJJF New York Spring International Open — all at brown belt, Master 1 — to a growing list of regional and national titles. Runner-up finishes at the IBJJF New York Summer International Open in 2013 and at the IBJJF New York International Open in 2011 and 2012 at purple belt, Master level, further reflect a competitive presence that spanned multiple belt ranks.
Black Belt Competition
After receiving his black belt in August 2015, Balmant continued to perform at a high level. In 2016, he won the IBJJF New York Spring International Open at black belt, Master 2, along with the IBJJF New York Summer No-Gi International Open and the IBJJF New York Spring No-Gi International Open — demonstrating that his competitive edge carried seamlessly into the sport's highest rank. He also placed third at the 2016 IBJJF Pans No-Gi Championship at black belt, Master 2, adding a notable podium finish at one of the IBJJF's premier no-gi events.
