Born on July 31, 1969, in Poland, Mariusz Linke was introduced to martial arts at a remarkably young age. By seven years old, he had already taken his first steps on the judo mat, beginning a lifelong relationship with grappling. His commitment proved exceptional — Linke rose through the ranks to achieve a 4th dan black belt, a distinction that reflects both technical mastery and years of dedicated practice. That level of achievement earned him a place on the Polish national judo team, where he competed at both junior and senior levels, gaining invaluable experience on the international stage.

As mixed martial arts began its global rise during the 1990s and early 2000s, Linke took notice of how Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu practitioners were dominating competition. The effectiveness of BJJ in the MMA arena captivated him, and his judo background gave him a sharp appreciation for what the ground-based art could offer. Determined to seek out the best instruction available, he made the decision to travel to Brazil.

Linke's pursuit of BJJ brought him to São Paulo, Brazil, where he sought out Jorge Patino — known throughout the grappling world as "Macaco" — one of the sport's most respected instructors. Arriving as a white belt, Linke threw himself into the training environment with the same discipline that had defined his judo career.

His rapid technical development led to a distinction that is exceptionally rare in BJJ: Linke was promoted directly from white belt to purple belt, bypassing the blue belt grade entirely. Linke continued his intensive training, and by the end of 2006, Jorge Patino awarded him his black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Alongside his BJJ competition career, Linke also competed in MMA internationally, including bouts in Brazil and the United States, further illustrating his versatility and commitment to the full spectrum of combat sports.

Returning to Poland as its first-ever BJJ black belt, Linke understood the responsibility that distinction carried. Rather than treating it as a personal milestone, he channeled his knowledge and connections into building a lasting foundation for the sport in his home country. He established Linke Gold Team, an affiliate of Jorge Patino's Macaco Gold Team, and expanded it into a network with multiple franchise locations across Poland.

Linke became one of the primary driving forces behind BJJ's growth in Polish sporting culture — recruiting students, developing instructors, and creating the kind of organized academy structure capable of sustaining long-term development. His efforts produced tangible results: by 2012, Poland had grown to more than 40 BJJ black belts, a figure that illustrates the scale of the movement he helped set in motion.
