Igor Schneider was born on February 1, 1994, in São Paulo, Brazil, and raised in the municipality of Osasco. At age 10, Schneider first stepped onto the mats, initially encouraged by his parents as a means to improve his fitness. His early training began under instructor Lino "Palito" Cotti, a student of Charles Faria from Equipe Godoi academy—later rebranded as G13.

Rising Through the Ranks

Schneider advanced through his blue and purple belt stages under Charles Faria at Equipe Godoi (later G13). By late 2012, local media recognized him as a promising talent in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, highlighting his strong performances at prestigious events such as the Brazilian Nationals and São Paulo Open.

Move to Cicero Costha's PSLPB

Seeking a more competitive training environment, Schneider transitioned to Cicero Costha's PSLPB academy. Under Costha's guidance, Schneider refined his technical skills and strategic approach, earning his brown belt and ultimately receiving his black belt in June 2015.

In September 2015, internal divergences within PSLPB prompted Schneider and several elite competitors, including Leandro Lo, to establish a new academy named New School Brotherhood. Representing this new team internationally, Schneider solidified his reputation as a top-tier competitor on the global stage.

In 2024, Schneider relocated to San Antonio, Texas, joining Rodrigo Pinheiro BJJ, affiliated with Brazilian Top Team Texas. Quickly integrating into the local grappling community, Schneider assumed coaching responsibilities while continuing to compete actively. He expressed enthusiasm about training opportunities in San Antonio and began preparations for the IBJJF No-Gi Worlds, marking a significant new chapter in his international career.

Following his relocation to the United States, Schneider increasingly focused on no-gi tournaments. He achieved notable success, earning a bronze medal at the 2024 IBJJF No-Gi Pan Championship after advancing to the semi-finals. Additionally, in October 2024, Schneider secured a silver medal at the Abu Dhabi Grand Slam in Dallas, competing in the under 120 kg division.

Known by his nickname "Tigrão," Schneider is recognized for his aggressive, dynamic, and pressure-oriented competition style. Primarily competing in the ultra-heavyweight division (Pesadíssimo), he demonstrates versatility by effectively adapting his game to both gi and no-gi formats. Schneider's tactical approach emphasizes positional dominance, relentless pressure passing, and adaptability, making him a formidable opponent across diverse competitive settings.
