Florian Bayili

Florian Bayili was born on March 19, 1996, in Ouagadougou, the capital of Burkina Faso, a West African nation nestled in the heart of the continent, bordered by Mali, Ghana, Niger, and several other regional neighbors. At the age of 7, he relocated to Belgium, settling in Brussels where he would spend his formative years and build the foundation for a remarkable athletic career.

From the moment he arrived in Europe, Bayili revealed the instincts of a natural athlete, throwing himself into a wide range of disciplines — climbing, basketball, swimming, and football among them. His commitment to football was particularly notable; he pursued the sport at a competitive level, ultimately reaching Belgium's 3rd division, a testament to his physical ability and disciplined work ethic.

Among the many pursuits Bayili embraced after arriving in Belgium, jiu-jitsu stood apart from the very beginning. He began training at the age of 7 in Brussels under the guidance of Dieter Truyen, embarking on what would become the defining thread of his athletic life.

Bayili's early BJJ development was rooted at BBJJA (Belgian Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Association), where Dieter Truyen provided the foundational instruction that shaped his technical identity. As his game progressed, Daan Bauwens also played an influential role, contributing to the competitive mindset and technical refinement Bayili would carry throughout his career.

Recognizing that his ambitions demanded a higher-level training environment, Bayili made the decision during his colored belt career to seek world-class preparation outside Belgium. He traveled to train at Cicero Costha, one of the most celebrated and decorated competition academies in the sport. The experience proved transformative — his performance and development there were so outstanding that they contributed directly to his black belt promotion, awarded on July 3, 2023.

At the brown belt level, Bayili established himself as one of the most formidable competitors on the international circuit, producing a string of high-level results that underscored his readiness for the elite tier of the sport. Competing in the Peso Pena division (70 kg / 154.5 lbs) under the Belgian flag, he performed with remarkable consistency across both the AJP and IBJJF competition calendars.

His ascent had already been signaled in 2021, when he reached the final of the AJP Abu Dhabi World Pro, finishing as runner-up in a performance that previewed the championship success to come. In 2022, he returned to claim gold at that same event — one of the most prestigious titles on the AJP annual calendar — and followed it with a Grand Slam title in Abu Dhabi, cementing his status as the dominant force in his division. That season also yielded a bronze medal at the IBJJF European Championship and a further bronze at the AJP Grand Slam in London, demonstrating his ability to perform across different competition formats and organizations.

Promoted to black belt on July 3, 2023, Bayili entered the next phase of his competitive career carrying the credentials of a decorated international competitor. Early in 2024, the leadership of Dream Art extended an invitation to join their squad — an offer he accepted, aligning himself with one of the prominent competition teams in the modern BJJ landscape.

While competing under the Dream Art banner internationally, Bayili maintains his home base in Belgium and preserves his longstanding affiliation with BBJJA, balancing his roots in the Belgian jiu-jitsu community with the demands of high-level international competition. The arrangement reflects both his loyalty to the foundation that shaped him and his drive to continue developing at the sport's elite level.
