Diana Teixeira

Diana Thais de Souza Teixeira was born in June 2001 in Manaus, Brazil — a city that would become the unlikely starting point for one of the AJP circuit's most decorated careers. Her path to the mats began around age eleven, when a jiu-jitsu club opened near the family home. Her brother, Everton Teixeira, attended first, and his enthusiasm was enough to convince Diana to follow.

The road to consistent training was not straightforward. Financial constraints threatened to cut the siblings' involvement short before it had truly begun, and it was their grandmother's determination that cleared the way for both Diana and Everton to join the academy and train in earnest. That support would prove pivotal.

Their first instructor, Alexandro Almeida, recognized the siblings' potential almost immediately. After just one month on the mats, he entered both Diana and Everton in their first competition. The experience was transformative — for Diana, it ignited a competitive fire that would define her career. Both siblings went on to pursue professional BJJ careers, with Diana establishing herself as one of the most dominant forces on the international AJP circuit.

Building a Foundation in Manaus

Diana's rise through the belt ranks reflected a deliberate approach to her development as a competitor. She maintained a strong relationship with Alexandro Almeida, her original instructor, but as her ambitions expanded, she sought out sharper competitive environments. Fellow Manaus-based instructor Carlos Holanda became central to her progression, providing the technical direction and competitive structure that her game required.

Training in Rio de Janeiro

In pursuit of elite-level preparation, Diana and her brother made the significant move from Manaus to Rio de Janeiro, where they trained at the Cantagalo Project under Douglas Rufino, known as Trator. To sustain themselves in the city, both siblings worked part-time jobs alongside their demanding training schedules — a clear reflection of the sacrifices the sport demands at the highest level.

Colored Belt Results and Black Belt Promotion

Despite the distance from Manaus, Carlos Holanda remained the guiding force behind Diana's competitive development, and her results bore that out. In 2019, competing at purple belt, she won the IBJJF South American Championship and earned a third-place finish at the CBJJ Brazilian Nationals. By 2021, at brown belt, she claimed gold at the CBJJ Brazilian Nationals — a performance that demonstrated her ability to perform at the top of her division across multiple belt levels. In May 2022, Holanda formally recognized her journey by promoting Diana to black belt.

The Invitation That Changed Everything

The opportunity that redirected Diana's career arrived while she was still based in Rio de Janeiro. She received an invitation to compete in a team tournament in Abu Dhabi, filling a roster spot that required an athlete under 52 kilograms. Her performance at the event made a strong impression within the local competitive structure, and she was subsequently offered a permanent placement on the AJP circuit. In September 2022, Diana relocated to the UAE and began training under coach Pablo Mantovani, competing under the Atos banner in the Peso Galo division (48.5 kg / 107.0 lbs).

Dominance on the Grand Slam Circuit

The move marked the beginning of a remarkable run on the AJP Grand Slam circuit. Diana quickly established herself as one of the division's most consistent and dangerous competitors, accumulating titles across a wide range of international venues. In 2023, she captured Grand Slam gold in London and Abu Dhabi. In 2024, she elevated her output further, claiming titles in Moscow, Rio de Janeiro, Dallas, Istanbul, and Abu Dhabi — one of the most prolific single-season title runs in the Peso Galo division.

Sustained Elite Presence

Her 2024 season also demonstrated the depth and consistency that separates elite competitors from merely successful ones. Runner-up finishes in Rome and Tokyo, alongside a third-place result in Miami, reinforced her sustained presence at the top of the global Peso Galo rankings throughout the year. The transition to UAE-based training under Pablo Mantovani served as the catalyst for a period of competitive output that has firmly positioned Diana Teixeira among the leading figures in her weight class on the international jiu-jitsu stage.
