Jansen Gomes and Gustavo Batista open the first round with heavy hand fighting and wrestling, though neither athlete commits to a shot for much of the round. Jansen eventually pressures Batista up the bowl and lands a double leg, using the pit wall for leverage on a big slam. Batista recovers quickly and gets back to his feet. The third round sees a lot of wrestling with neither competitor committing too deeply. Jansen goes for a seoi nage but Batista counters with a suplex, though he cannot hold the position and they return to the feet. The round ends without much activity compared to the first two rounds.
