Rockson Gracie built his reputation through a sustained run of excellence at the IBJJF Pan American Championships, establishing himself as one of the most promising BJJ prospects of the 1990s. His competitive arrival announced itself in 1997, when he claimed third place at the Pan Americans as a blue belt — a strong debut that foreshadowed the dominance to come.
Returning in 1998, Rockson captured first place at blue belt, demonstrating rapid progression and technical maturity well beyond his years. His promotion to purple belt did nothing to slow his momentum. In 1999, he claimed gold at the Pan Americans once more, and in 2000, he defended that title at purple belt — cementing his standing as one of the most formidable competitors of his generation.
Across four consecutive Pan American Championship appearances, Rockson collected three gold medals and one bronze. That record drew widespread admiration throughout the BJJ community and fueled expectations that he would one day rival his father's legendary standing in the sport.
