Born on May 26, 1976, in Brazil, Régis Lebre developed an early and wide-ranging curiosity for combat sports. Rather than committing to a single discipline, he explored boxing, karate, and judo alongside more traditional athletic pursuits such as swimming and football (soccer). This broad exposure to movement, competition, and body mechanics built a versatile physical foundation — yet no single art fully captured his attention until the age of 17.
It was then that Lebre first stepped onto the BJJ mats, training under Eduardo Rocha. The art resonated with him in a way his previous disciplines had not, igniting a deep passion for grappling. Far from a distraction, his varied martial arts background provided a rich physical toolkit that he carried directly onto the mat.
