Pirillo Roriz's path through Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is defined by mentorship, courage, and an unwavering commitment to the art. His earliest training was guided by coach Alcantra, who developed Roriz through to purple belt and laid the foundation for everything that followed. From there, tuition passed to Ricardo Pinho, a black belt under the illustrious Master Sá, whose influence would shape the direction of Roriz's entire career.
A pivotal institutional moment came in 2001, when Ricardo Pinho officially affiliated his academy with Gracie Barra, making it one of the first gyms in the state of Ceará to compete under the GB banner. This alignment gave Roriz and his teammates access to one of the most recognized networks in global jiu-jitsu. Pirillo embraced the opportunity fully — beginning to teach the art himself that same year, while still holding a purple belt.
The most dramatic chapter of Roriz's personal journey arrived in 2005. Having competed at the World Jiu Jitsu Championship as a brown belt, Pirillo returned to Brazil and accepted a superfight against a well-known black belt without hesitation. He made a promise to his instructor: he would submit his opponent. In recognition of that bravery, and moments before Roriz stepped onto the mat, Ricardo Pinho awarded him his black belt on the spot. Pirillo honored the promotion that same night, finishing his opponent via Clock Choke and validating every ounce of faith his coach had placed in him.
