Seeking a higher level of competition and instruction, Mo joined Fightzone London, a Checkmat affiliate based in London, training under head coach Marco Canha. The structured environment and competitive culture at Fightzone accelerated Mo's development on both fronts — as a technical practitioner and as a competitor with ambitions beyond local circuits.
Coaching and Community
Alongside his own training, Mo took on an assistant coaching role within the Fightzone kids program, demonstrating a commitment to giving back to the community that had shaped him. That role opened a significant door in 2016, when he traveled to California to coach at the IBJJF Pan Kids Championships — representing Fightzone London on an international stage for the first time.
Belt Progression Within Checkmat
Mo's dedication within the Checkmat system earned him recognition at the highest level of the organization. Leozinho Vieira, head coach of Checkmat, promoted Mo to purple belt — a milestone that reflected both his technical growth and his standing within one of the world's most prominent BJJ organizations. Mo's stated aspiration is to reach the pinnacle of the sport and become a black belt world champion, a goal that continues to drive his training and competition schedule.
