Loyalty to a Single Coach
From his very first class through to his black belt ceremony, Guilherme Cascon trained under one instructor: Carlos Henrique. That unwavering consistency of coaching proved instrumental in shaping Cascon into a competitor of national standing. On November 5, 2008 — roughly 18 years after beginning his journey — Henrique awarded Cascon his black belt, a milestone that spoke as much to the depth of their student-teacher relationship as it did to Cascon's long-term commitment to the art.
A Championship Record Across Three Belt Divisions
Cascon's competitive record across the belt levels tells the story of a practitioner who found his footing quickly and never relinquished it. Representing Brazil 021, he claimed the Brazilian National Championship title at blue belt in 1997 — the same year he took gold at the XIV Niteroi City Cup. He followed that breakthrough with back-to-back national titles at purple belt in 1998 and brown belt in 2000, completing a remarkable run of three national championships across three consecutive divisions. A runner-up finish at the Rio de Janeiro State Championships in 1999 added further weight to an already impressive pre-black belt résumé.
Longevity and Senior Competition
Cascon's brown belt chapter extended into the Master division as well, with a Rolls Gracie Cup title claimed in 2004. After receiving his black belt, he continued to test himself at the senior level, earning a bronze medal at the Brazilian National Championship in 2011 in the Senior 2 division — proof of an enduring competitive drive well into his black belt years. Competing in the Peso Leve division (76kg/167lbs), Cascon's career stands as a compelling testament to the rewards of patient, long-term development under consistent coaching.
