Mayssa Bastos vs Grace Gundrum

At WNO 5, Mayssa Bastos, the reigning IBJJF World Champion, faced Grace Gundrum, a competitor who had not lost a match since her childhood. Both athletes were strategic throughout, and neither scored a dominant position. Bastos appeared to push the pace more than Gundrum.

Bastos's game plan centered on playing guard to earn sweeps, then coming up on a leg drag to expose the back. She pursued this approach for most of the match and converted multiple sweeps, though when the opportunity was not there she would return to her guard. Late in the match, Bastos shifted to playing from the top, applying pressure passing and attempting knee slide passes and half guard underhook passes, all of which Gundrum blocked.

The match was not high-scoring but was technically sound from both competitors.
