Stoner Control

Position
Also known as:
Electric Stone Sweep

Stoner control is a 10th Planet half guard bottom control from the lockdown system: from the lockdown, you swim your arm under the opponent's leg on the shoulder-line side and bring it through, trapping that leg under your arm. Sitting alongside old school and the electric chair in the system, it flattens their pass, exposes the back, and carries its own named finishes — the stoner control arm triangle and calf crank.

Quick Reference

Key principles

  • · It starts from the lockdown: the leg entanglement is already stretching and immobilizing their near leg before the arm ever swims.
  • · The underhooked leg is the control — with their leg trapped under your arm they cannot backstep, knee-slide, or square their hips to pass.
  • · It is a hub, not a stall: old school sweeps, electric chair entries, back exposure, and the named arm-triangle and calf-crank finishes all branch from the same trap.
  • · Off-balancing them over the trapped side converts their base reactions into your sweep timing.
  • · Keep your elbow tight once the leg is under your arm; a loose trap returns their mobility instantly.

Execution

  1. 1 Establish the lockdown from half guard bottom and stretch their trapped leg to break their base.
  2. 2 Swim your arm under their free-side leg and bring it all the way through, pinning that leg under your armpit.
  3. 3 Clamp the elbow to seal the trap and angle onto your side.
  4. 4 Off-balance them over the trapped side, choosing between old school, the electric chair transition, and back exposure as they react.
  5. 5 When they defend the sweeps by posting, take the stoner control arm triangle or calf crank the system builds from here.

Common mistakes

  • × Swimming for the leg without the lockdown stretch first, which just hands them a free crossface while you dig.
  • × Trapping the leg but lying passive under it, letting them base wide and wait out your control.
  • × Releasing the trapped leg to chase a sweep grip — the leg is the sweep grip.
