Russian Tie
Position
Also known as:
Two-on-One
2 on 1
The two-on-one standing grip: both of your hands control one of the opponent's arms, elbow pinched to your chest, head on the shoulder. It kills their near-side offense entirely and feeds singles, doubles, snaps, and back takes.
Quick Reference
Key principles
- · Two hands on one arm trades symmetry for total control of that side
- · Elbow-to-chest connection and head position stop them squaring up
- · Their free-hand reach across is the trigger for shots and go-behinds
Execution
- 1 Off a collar tie or grip exchange, capture the wrist and slide to two-on-one
- 2 Pinch their elbow to your chest, head on their shoulder
- 3 Circle toward the controlled side to break their stance
- 4 Shoot the single or double, snap to the front headlock, or run the pipe to the back
Common mistakes
- × Holding the arm away from your body, letting them circle out
- × Standing square instead of circling to the controlled side
