Hip Drag Pass
Pass
Passing by dragging the opponent's hip or pant across the centerline — their own legs cross out of the fight, opening the back-side lane. Emerging as a standard answer to butterfly and seated guards.
Quick Reference
Key principles
- · Dragging the hip crosses their legs for them
- · The pass lane opens BEHIND their turned hips
- · Timing beats force — drag as they load a hook, not before
Execution
- 1 Grip the near hip or pant at the hip line
- 2 Drag across your centerline as they load or lift a hook
- 3 Step or slide into the lane behind their turned hips
- 4 Settle side-on before they can re-square
Common mistakes
- × Dragging without an angle change, letting them re-center
- × Chasing the legs instead of the opened back-side lane
