Zoe Lundy

Zoe Lundy-Chen holds brown belts in both Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Judo — a dual commitment to grappling that sets her apart within the UK martial arts community. Training and competing under coach Leigh Remedios at Taurus BJJ UK, her development across two disciplines reflects a technically grounded, well-rounded approach to the grappling arts.

A Chinese national competing under the United Kingdom flag, Lundy-Chen maintains an active competition profile on Smoothcomp, placing her firmly within the organised BJJ competitive circuit. Her profile has attracted sponsorship from jiu_jitsu.life, a mark of recognition within the broader grappling community.

Alongside her competitive pursuits, Lundy-Chen serves as an instructor at Taurus BJJ UK, leading Thursday classes at the academy. Her position as both an active competitor and a coach reflects the dual identity that brown belt practitioners often inhabit — immersed enough in their own development to compete seriously, yet experienced enough to meaningfully guide others on the mats.

Lundy-Chen maintains an active presence on Instagram under the handle @themolebjj, where she shares insight into her training and competition life and engages with the wider BJJ community.

On September 6, 2026, Lundy-Chen found herself in a real-world self-defence situation that drew widespread attention within the grappling community. She had stopped at a Tesco supermarket in the UK to pick up a bottle of Pepsi before heading to training when she witnessed a man trashing the store. The situation escalated when the man emerged from behind the registers wielding a broken bottle.

The Takedown

Despite having never intervened in such a situation before, Lundy-Chen made the decision to act. "I've never intervened before but today it seemed necessary," she explained. She closed the distance, jumped on the man's back, and brought him to the ground — maintaining control through pressure until police arrived. In her own words: "I jumped on his back and took him to the ground where he learned about my pressure until the police arrived."

De-escalation and Aftermath

Her training partner, known online as @lolo.jiujitsu, was also present and played a key role in de-escalating the situation, with Lundy-Chen noting that her partner "did a great job calming the guy down." Once police were on their way, the pair changed clothes in the store and departed without delay — as Lundy-Chen put it, they "promptly fled the scene as we were going to be late for class."

Reflecting on the experience, she offered a straightforward verdict: "Jiujitsu works in the street." Following the incident, Lundy-Chen indicated her intention to obtain and share CCTV footage of the events if it became available. The account was shared publicly via her Instagram account @themolebjj.
