Breaking Into BJJ Journalism
Freitas entered the professional world of jiu-jitsu media at 18, securing an internship at GRACIEMAG — widely regarded as one of the most authoritative publications in the global BJJ community. Immersed in the editorial rhythms of a major sports publication, he developed a passion for journalism and content creation that would define the trajectory of his career.
He formalized that foundation by graduating with a journalism degree from Universidade Salgado de Oliveira in 2016. Armed with both hands-on experience and academic training in communications, Freitas moved into athlete relations, serving as a Press Officer for jiu-jitsu athletes at Fight Talk Comunicação. That role sharpened his expertise in media strategy, public relations, and the specific challenges athletes face when building visibility in a sport where mainstream coverage remains limited.
Building VF Comunica
Those accumulated experiences led Freitas to found VF Comunica, a media platform that grew into one of Brazil's leading jiu-jitsu news portals. Operating through an Instagram news hub and the YouTube channel Vitor Freitas Comunica, the platform delivers consistent, dedicated coverage to Portuguese-speaking audiences across Brazil and beyond. With more than a decade of continuous involvement in BJJ media, Freitas has established himself as one of the most trusted and prolific voices in Brazilian jiu-jitsu journalism.
