José Aldo was born on September 9, 1986, in Manaus, Brazil, where football consumed much of his early youth — a sport he pursued at a competitive level. That trajectory shifted dramatically at age 16, when Aldo made the bold, independent decision to leave Manaus for Rio de Janeiro, a move his mother firmly opposed.
Arriving in Rio with little support, Aldo sought out André Pederneiras and the renowned Nova Uniao academy, driven by a singular ambition to train at the highest level. Within weeks, Pederneiras took note of Aldo's difficult living situation and responded with generosity — offering him residence at the academy and waiving tuition fees entirely. That act of mentorship would prove foundational to everything that followed. It was also during his time at Nova Uniao that Aldo met Viviane, who would later become his wife.
