Development Under Marcus Aurelio and Nova Uniao
Seeking higher-level instruction, Cavalcante transitioned to the camp of Marcus Aurelio, a well-established black belt in the region who would go on to compete professionally in Pride and the UFC, later affiliating with American Top Team. Training within the Nova Uniao framework, Cavalcante earned his blue, purple, and brown belts — a developmental stretch that also produced some of his most consistent competitive results. He captured the Ceará State Championship at blue belt in 2000 and at purple belt in 2001, claimed the North-Northeast Championship at purple belt in 2002, reached the North-Northeast silver medal podium at brown belt in 2003, and added a second purple belt Ceará State title in 2006 to round out his tenure under Aurelio.
Black Belt Under Fredson Alves and Gracie Humaita
Ready for the next chapter of his BJJ education, Cavalcante moved to Gracie Humaita and aligned himself with Fredson Alves, widely regarded as one of the most accomplished black belts to emerge from Brazil's Northeast. It was Alves who awarded Cavalcante his black belt in 2009, cementing a lineage rooted firmly in the Gracie Humaita tradition.
