UFC Featherweight Run
Following his Ultimate Fighter appearance, Lobov competed in the UFC's featherweight division, bringing an aggressive, pressure-heavy style that embodied his "Russian Hammer" identity. His willingness to walk forward and engage made him a fan-friendly fighter whose performances carried entertainment value regardless of the scorecards. His relentless forward pressure and commitment to exchanges defined his tenure on the sport's biggest stage.
Bare-Knuckle Transition and UFC 229 Revelations
After his UFC tenure concluded, Lobov demonstrated his adaptability by transitioning into bare-knuckle boxing, where the stripped-down nature of the format suited his relentless approach. He remained a visible presence in Conor McGregor's camp in the lead-up to UFC 229 on October 6, 2018 — the night McGregor challenged Khabib Nurmagomedov for the UFC lightweight title and lost by rear-naked choke in the fourth round.
Years later, on The Ariel Helwani Show, Lobov offered a candid account of what he witnessed during that preparation period. He alleged that McGregor trained only twice a week heading into the fight, and described personally urging his friend to intensify the camp: "Conor, come on. Let's go to Vegas, man. We have to do it. Come on, brother," to which he claims McGregor replied, "No, f*** off. You just want to go on a horse." Lobov contrasted McGregor's approach for UFC 229 with the work ethic he had displayed during his earlier championship run, suggesting that even training four times a week might have changed the outcome of the contest. These claims are attributed to Lobov's own recollections and have not been independently verified.
