Álvaro Borges Neto was born and raised in Salvador, Bahia, Brazil, where he developed a natural affinity for physical activity from an early age. Growing up with Down syndrome, Álvaro refused to let his diagnosis define his athletic ceiling. Instead, he built a broad sporting foundation across swimming, capoeira, and soccer — disciplines that cultivated body awareness, coordination, and competitive spirit in equal measure.
In 2014, Álvaro added boxing to his training regimen, sharpening his physical conditioning, discipline, and striking fundamentals. This multisport background amounted to more than a collection of hobbies; it served as a systematic, if informal, preparation for the demands of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. By the time he stepped onto a BJJ mat, Álvaro carried years of athletic experience and a resilience forged across multiple combat and movement disciplines.
