De La Riva Guard is an open guard position where the bottom player hooks one leg around the outside of the opponent's lead leg, wrapping the foot to the inside of the thigh or hip. It is primarily used as an offensive guard to off-balance standing or kneeling opponents, creating sweeping and back-taking opportunities.
