The 50-50 guard is a symmetrical ashi garami position where both players' legs are entangled in a mirror configuration, each having one leg wrapped around the other's same-side leg. It is primarily used as a leg lock hunting position in no-gi and as a sweeping/guard passing position in gi, offering roughly equal offensive opportunities to both players.
